Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act

The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (“ESTMA”) was enacted by the Government of Canada on December 16, 2014, and made effective on June 1, 2015. This Act delivers on Canada’s international commitments to contribute to global efforts to increase transparency and deter corruption in the extractive sector. The Act requires extractive entities active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, specific payments made to all governments in Canada and abroad.

Modern Slavery Act

The Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (“Modern Slavery Act”) was enacted by the Government of Canada on May 3, 2023, and made effective on January 1, 2024. The Modern Slavery Act aligns Canada with other commonwealth jurisdictions by requiring certain entities to conduct public reporting on measures taken to identify, evaluate and mitigate modern slavery practices in its supply chains. The Modern Slavery Act requires applicable entities to publicly disclose a report summarizing these measures on an annual basis.
