MEG’s integrated Environmental, Health and Safety Management System has been in place since 2006. In 2015, MEG implemented an updated Environmental Health and Safety Management Performance Program (EHS MPP) which reflects changes in the growth and scope of the company. The Management Performance Program aligns with both ISO 14001 and Certificate of Recognition (COR) Safety program components and outlines corporate requirements in 10 focus areas:

Annual safety performance targets are established by MEG’s Board of Directors and linked to overall corporate performance targets which in part drive management compensation. Managerial accountability rests at the Senior Vice President and Vice President level.
Certificate of Recognition
MEG’s Health and Safety program is certified under the Alberta Partnerships in Injury Reduction Certificate of Recognition Program. Annual external audits of the H&S program are conducted for continuous improvement.
MEG has an extensive Contractor Safety Program as part of the Environmental Health and Safety Management Performance Program.
Program requirements include contractor prescreening, safety training, monthly tracking and monthly/quarterly reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors on contractor incidents. Key requirements are included in contracts. Targets are set at the Board of Directors level.
MEG subscribes to ISNetworld, a contractor management database, which helps MEG to prescreen contractors based on safety performance. MEG actively monitors these safety metrics and works with contractors to improve their performance.
MEG has a detailed, integrated all-hazards Emergency Response Plan (ERP) that covers corporate response and all operating facility responses utilizing the internationally recognized Incident Command System (ICS) management program. The ERP identifies risks, response strategies and resources, notification and communication internally and with regulators and stakeholders. MEG maintains a 24-hour emergency line with the number included on all facility sites signage.
The ERP is updated on a quarterly and annual basis. Training and exercise programs are regularly conducted.
