William (Bill) McCaffrey
President, Chief Executive Officer and Director
Bill has been President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of MEG Energy since March 1999. Prior to co-founding MEG, he held various leadership roles at Amoco Canada over 17 years, including Manager of Business Development and Growth, where he was responsible for the growth plans of Amoco Canada’s oil sands leases. At Amoco Canada, Bill also led the team responsible for the initiation and development of the Primrose thermal oil sands project, a 25,000 bpd project that was one of the first commercial sites utilizing horizontal wells and thermal technologies.
He holds Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science (Biology/Chemistry) degrees, both from the University of Alberta and has participated in the Western Executive Development Program at the University of Western Ontario. Bill received the designation of Professional Engineer in 1983.
Chief Financial Officer
Eric was appointed Chief Financial Officer in August 2013. Prior to joining MEG, he spent eight years as Managing Director in the Global Energy group of BMO Capital Markets based in Calgary, where his role included providing strategic financial and capital raising advice to Canadian oil and gas companies. His previous experience includes leadership roles with major Canadian and U.S. investment banks based in Calgary, Toronto and New York, with a focus on the Canadian oil and gas sector. Prior to entering Investment Banking, Eric worked with two global public practice accounting firms. Eric holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina and is a member of the Canadian and Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Senior VP, Resource Management – Growth Properties
Grant is Senior Vice President, Resource Management – Growth Properties. Previously, he has held the roles of Vice President, Growth and Emissions Management and Vice President, Resource Management. Prior to joining MEG, he held various management roles in the energy industry, including Manager, Oil Sands Operations at Husky Energy Ltd. and Vice President, North Business Unit at Marathon Canada Ltd. Grant holds a Bachelor of Science (Petroleum Engineering) from the University of Alberta and received the designation of Professional Engineer in 1985.
Senior VP, Resource Management – Christina Lake and Special Projects
Jamey was appointed Senior Vice President - Christina Lake and Special Projects in 2011. He joined MEG in 2010 as Vice President, Special Projects. Jamey's previous management roles include President and Chief Operating Officer of Oilsands Quest Inc., Vice President, Resource Development for OPTI Canada, Inc. and Vice President at TD Securities in investment banking. Jamey has an additional 14 years experience in the oil sands and heavy oil industry, with Esso Resources, Elan Energy and Ranger Oil. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemical Engineering) from Queen’s University, an MBA from the University of Calgary and received the designation of Professional Engineer in 1988.
Senior VP, Strategy and Government Relations
Richard has been MEG’s Senior Vice President, Strategy and Government Relations since 2011. Prior to this position, he has held the roles of Vice President, Business and Strategic Planning and Vice President Regulatory and Public Affairs. Before joining MEG in 2007, Richard was the Director, Heavy Oil Technology for Suncor Energy. He has 35 years of oil sands development experience through positions held in several major oil and gas exploration and production companies, including Petro-Canada, Dome Petroleum Limited, Amoco Canada and Suncor. Roles and responsibilities held throughout his career include drilling engineer, project management, reservoir development, new technology development and business planning. Richard received a Masters of Science (Engineering) from Queen’s University and the designation of Professional Engineer in 1980.
Senior VP, Reservoir and Geosciences
Chi-Tak is the Senior Vice President, Reservoir and Geosciences. Prior to this position, he held the role of Vice President, Reservoir and Production. He has 25 years of oil and gas experience, primarily in thermal recovery with Petro-Canada and Esso. Chi-Tak provided reservoir and production engineering leadership to the first successful field demonstration of the SAGD process in the Athabasca region using surface drilled horizontal well pairs. Chi-Tak holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, both from the University of Calgary. In 1988, he received the designation of Professional Engineer.
VP, Legal and General Counsel
Grant Borbridge was appointed MEG’s Vice President, Legal and General Counsel in 2013. Before joining MEG, Grant was Executive Vice President, Investments and Chief Counsel of the Emergo Group of Companies, a global private equity firm. In this role, Grant oversaw all of the Group companies’ world-wide legal and compliance activities. He was also a member of Emergo’s Global Portfolio Investment Committee, co-leader of the Group’s Transactions Team, and sat on the Boards of Directors of the parent corporation, its key subsidiaries and various entities in which Emergo holds investments. Prior to Emergo, he held roles in asset management and investment banking and worked in private practice as a corporate and securities lawyer with a focus on energy services and technology. He holds a BA from the University of Alberta, an LLB from Dalhousie University and an MBA from Pennsylvania State University. In 2011, Grant earned the Certified Director designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and was appointed Queen’s Counsel by the Province of Alberta.
VP, Finance and Treasurer
Scott was appointed Vice President, Finance and Treasurer in December 2013. He joined MEG in 2010 as Treasurer. Scott has more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry where he has held a number of progressively senior corporate finance positions including Corporate Finance Associate at HSBC Securities, Corporate Finance Associate at Alberta Energy Company, Manager, Capital Markets at Encana, Manager, Corporate Finance at Paramount Resources and Treasurer at Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. Scott holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, an MBA from the Ivey School of Business and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
VP, Human Resources, Information Technology and Corporate Services
Stephen joined MEG as Vice President, Human Resources, Information Technology and Corporate Services in 2012. Before joining MEG, he served as North American Energy and Resources Leader for Mercer Human Capital and prior to that role was Managing Partner of Deloitte Consulting’s Calgary office. Stephen has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto.
VP, Supply and Marketing
Don was appointed Vice President, Supply and Marketing in 2012. Prior to joining MEG, Don worked as an energy industry consultant. He has held various industry leadership roles including Chief Executive Officer of ALTEX Energy, Vice President, BP Canada Energy Company, Chairman of the Board of BP Canada Energy Marketing Corp and Manager, North American NGLs for BP America. He has over 40 years of industry experience in all areas of oil and gas drilling, production, transportation and marketing. Don received a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Calgary and is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta.
VP, Finance and Controller
John was appointed Vice President, Finance and Controller in December 2013. Previously, he held the role of MEG’s Controller since December 2010. Prior to joining MEG, John has held various senior financial roles in the industry, including Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Builders Energy Services Trust, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Calpine Canada and the Calpine Power Income Fund and Controller for Numac Energy. John holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary and received the designation of Chartered Accountant in 1988.
VP, Investor Relations
John joined MEG as Vice President, Investor Relations and External Communications in September 2010. He brings over 25 years of oil sands industry experience with Suncor Energy. He is a Chartered Accountant and has held various senior financial roles with Suncor’s oil sands and natural gas divisions. John headed up the investor relations department at Suncor from 1993 until his retirement from the company in September 2010. He holds a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina and received the designation of Chartered Accountant in 1979.
Chris has been MEG’s Vice President, Projects since 2011, prior to which he served as Project Director from February 2009. He has 25 years of experience with engineering, design and construction of oil, gas and power generation facilities. Prior to joining MEG, Chris held various management roles including Project Manager and Manager of Business Development at Sherritt International Corp. and Project Manager and Manager of Business Development at SNC-Lavalin / Titan Projects. Chris received a Bachelor of Science (Chemical Engineering) from the University of Calgary and the designation of Professional Engineer in 1988.
VP, Regulatory and Community Relations
Don joined MEG as Vice President, Regulatory and Community Relations in 2011. Prior to joining MEG, Don held various management roles at Husky Energy Inc. including Manager, Oil Sands Environment, Regulatory and Stakeholder Relations and East Coast Manager of QHSE, Public and Government Affairs. He has over 33 years of experience in the oil and gas industry in the areas of human resources, public affairs, community relations, emergency response planning, health and safety, environmental management and regulatory affairs. Don holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta.
